Shade modifying LED strip set up in this kid's bed room make fun shades which indicate off the surfaces and onto the table.  To make two individual areas of color, you can either use a DMX operator, use several different designs of remotes, or "cheat" and only use one operator.   For less sized venture like a kid's space, it is simpler (and less expensive) to basically use one operator to get two areas of color.  Instead of related each area of LED remove R-G-B to R-G-B of the operator, you could either change R-G, R-B, or B-G for one of the pieces and see which mixture you like the best.  Although this does not offer two independently manageable color areas, it can make some nice color effects!
